LED stripes

So many type available on the net!!!!

What's your experience with that kind of lighting.
Good Bad ? which color for backlighting?

What is the average thickness (to integrate it in a slotted MDF board, front of the MCP)

I use these.

They are around 18 cm long, 5,9 mm wide and only 2 mm thick.

You can connect them directly to 12 volts and can cut them at the copper part square pads (see the picture of the back)

The ones in the picture are amber, but also available in bright white, warm white (and other colours).

I bought them some years ago from a shop called LEDsee on ebay.

I think i paid 4 euros each.

i use them for the backlight in the glare wings (they are about the same length as the opening in the glarewings for the lighting there) and also for the lighting in the center part of the glare shield (the mcp/efis bay and the mcp/efis glare shield cover.

I think stef's LED strips in 'golden white' would look awsom!

...I think this because I think that it will produce a more natural light colour as to bright halogen white.

You could go down the Red route if you like that look too, or why not have two strips laying next to each other (each different colour) and wire up to a 2 way switch so that you can select either colour such as red / white or Yellow / blue etc etc...

I used the White ones and to be honest they are a bit too 'white', not a soft light like this http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=390524

I think the Amber or "orange" should match pretty well the IBL backlighting..

Or paint the LED's with orange, transparent Tamiya paint. Gives a nice, warm glow to it.

I bought last week smt led stripe for the flood lightning of the MCP
on my 76'er.
They are a bit expensive, but they do great job and fit well
in the space I made for them.
They have two types of white, warm light like regular bulbs has,
and the halogen white.
As said they can be connected directly to 12v or in my case,
connected to led dimmer circ (design from Mike's flight deck web site)
and it's working perfect.
Over them I want to place taint white perspex to give nicer flood effect.
Pics next week I hope when I finish wiring 84 super bright leds for the MCP back light
