    spoiler auto deployment part 2

Had my jump seat ride this weekend and a chance to get the info on this subject we discussed a week or so ago.

Pulling reverser levers pushes up a pin that pushes up the spoiler lever.
At RTO the spoiler lever needs to be down.
When pulling the reverser levers the spoiler lever gets pushed up by the pin and when the right conditions are met, the spoilers will deploy (above 90 knots, etc)

At take off with the autobrake knob at RTO, spoilers should not be and dont need to be armed.

At landing spoilers are armed and the pin doesnt play a role.

The 200 throttle doesnt have this provision, thats why i didnt see a pin at my throttle here at home.

made 2 close ups and a short movie.

    330 feet

Hi all, first post here on this great forum. I just two days ago got a 4 hour ride in Alaska Airlines 737-400 sim( WOW that is another story )where I saw the procedure first hand why the spoilers are deployed manually on an RTO.
here's the deal, as correctly posted the spoilers are set to DOWN-LOCKED before T/O. and there is a pin that will pop the spoiler handle up out of the detent as the thrust reverserhandles are pulled and if your above 90Kts.But the thrust reverser lever will only come up halfway until the buckets are unlocked AND travel back to the reverse position THEN you can pull the handles all the way and have reverse thrust and spoiler auto deploy.this all takes WAY TOO LONG , and costs you about 330 feet of groung roll. So at Sitka on an icy runway with a 10kt tail wind and at max tackoff wt. you will call REJECT - REJECT then, throttles idle, spoilers deploy manually, then go back to the throttles for some reverse thrust because you will not have 330 feet to spare. I tried this myself and did not get the spoilers up in time and I went off the end still rolling at about 20kts. next time did that the instructor told me and I got stopped with about 150 feet to spare. hope this is good info for someone. now I am off to dig up another servo to add to my sim.
    Andy
