Virtual Pilot CH Products USB Adapter

I have an older Virtual Pilot PRO which uses a gameport plug. I just bought a " Super Joy Box" gameport to USB adapter. I am using it with Microsoft Flight Simulator Century of Flight. Everything works except the throttle. The throttle adjusts the point of view within the cockpit. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Likely you can just go into the "Assignments" section of the "Settings" part of the sim and re-assign the throttle axis. Hopefully....anyway.

Your "Super Joy Box" gameport to USB adapter can only support 4 Axis which means you will have to lose one of your axis such as the 'Throttle' as including the throttle you have 5, your adapter only supports 4 so thats why you have lost the throttle, it will be impossible to get this working on a gameport adapter (if im correct, ALL gameport adapters can only support upto 4 Axis) the yoke you have (same as mine) is 5 Axis, it simply WONT work with the throttle unless you invest in a gameport card.

I have the exact same yoke as you, and instead of buying the gameport to usb adapter, i just bought an old soundblaster soundcard that had a gameport built in, all i did was insert the soundcard into a spare PCI slot on my pc and Windows XP SP2 recognised the card straight away and installed the driver automatically, as soon as i connected the yoke to the gameport the 'Yoke' installed and configured itself automatically too. The Soundblaster card cost me just £2 from ebay (including packaging) Bargain!

Everything on the yoke works, yes all the buttons, all axis, and throttle.

    Hope this helps.

Surely the old Virtual Pilot Pro is 3 axis only - roll, pitch and throttle - so a 4 axis capable gameport to USB adapter should work if control assignments are set up appropriately.

Yeah sorry i think you are right, ive just had a look at the adapter and to my knowlege the adapter only accepts X + Y axis plus buttons, so he's still buggered!

There seem to be multiple versions of the Super Joy Box, so it depends which one he has. My gameport to USB adapter (not an S J B) claims to handle 4 axes in one of its modes, but I never tried it out.

    Hi guys !

The last days i shoot myself 2 of the Virtual Pilot yokes game port version.

I´ve done a different approach on converting them to USB.

The problem with gameport to usb converters are that they are all
not suiteable for the CH series of yokes.

You can read that in the CH forums.

To get the Virtual Pilot yokes working with new USB standart
all the inbuild pots are needed to be connected with all
    3 cables.
Original the Virtual Pilot yokes are only connected with 2 cables at the pots.

    What i have done:

I had an spare Microsoft Attack3 Joystick which i have taken into peaces
and get all the electronics out.

Then i opened the Virtual pilot and taked out the pot for the throttle
(easyest one to get out) and soldered all 3 cables on the connectors
    at the pot.

Then i connected these 3 cables to the throttle pot cable of the Attack3
    electronic.
And tested in the windows gamecontroller tab if it works.

How to connect the 3 cables:

ok hold the pot the way to you that you can see the letters on round top
and the 3 connectors show to you.

The middle connector is the single cable on your Attack3 cable.

The left and right connectors are connected to the poles on your Attack3 cable that are through connected to every pot.
These are for the axis left right movement and you must test the way you connect them so when you steer the ailerons or elevators that they go the right direction.

When you open the Virtual pilot yoke you will notice a problem:

In the handle where the pot for aileron and the 2 microswitches are
there is no chance to get the 3rd cable for the aileron pot through
the center hole of the yoke.

There are 2 cables for ground pole of the microswitches goes through the yoke to main connector.

Now i have connected the ground pole of the 2 microswitches to only one ground cable that goes through the yoke.

And the other cable i have now for spare i used for the 3rd pole for the
    aileron pot. Easy isn`t it

All this conversion i`ve done in 1,5 hours and it is worth it

For this conversion you can strip and use i think all newer joystick usb electronics that has 3 axes for ailerons/elevator/throttle.

If you need any help feel free to PM me

    Kind regards

    George
