Anyone know any good practice routes?

    Hi there,

Less time building, more time flying for the mo!

Does anyone know any short-ish take off and landing routes in the UK (prefered) or Worldwide for FS2004 in a Cessna, mainly to practice flying, but mainly landing?

I usually fly London City - Heathrow for practicing short landings and take offs as they are only 20-25 km apart,

Id like to fly a different array of routes covering different procedures etc, but mainly interested in practising landings at a variety of different airfields etc!

Any good route that stands out come to mind?

    Let me know!

    Cheers!

    Hi Alex.

Try visiting the Midlands. I am continuing a PPL at Wolverhampton's Half Penny Green Airfield (EGBO) and I have had some great VFR trips.

One of my favourites from there is to Gloucester (EGBJ) and back. Its about 1 hour there, 1 hour back. They have a right hand circuit so watch out!

Another is EGBO-Turning at EGBJ-Landing at Cardiff(EGFF)-EGBO. Takes about 2.5 to 3 hours flight time.

There are numerous VFR trips that require turning points over landmarks but they are difficult in FS without really good photo scenery.

    Tom.

I have always enjoyed landing at the Toronto City Centre Airport (CYTZ). The airport on an island in downtown Toronto. Take off from Toronto Pearson (CYYZ) runway 15R or 15L, head towards Lake Ontario, turn left and land on runway 08. Should be a 15-20 min flight in a Cessna.

    Regards,
    Henry

These are all in close proximity to München:

    ETSI Ingolstadt
    ETSN Neuburg/Donau
    EDMA Augsburg
    EDMA Oberpfaffenhofen
    ETSL Lechfeld

Makes for good Round Robin in Bavaria.
    Boeing Skunk Works

    Hi Alex,
In your area, try short routes like Cambridge to Duxford or even Southend to Stansted. (I dont think Stansted would be too pleased with a Student in a 172 calling for clearance though!) I can't count the number of times I have flown Norwich to Seething trying to get to grips with a new aircraft or system!

There's a lot to be said for basing yourself at one airfield and flying circuits, as in real life training. You do need something like Track IR though to get the most out of "bashing the circuit".

I try to use aeronautical charts as much as possible. If you know any PPLs ask them not to throw away their old map next time they get a new one, or check out e-bay. Search for 'AERONAUTICAL CHART ICAO' - there's one there now.

    Cheers,
    Richard

    Thanks for the replies!

    Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies, a good response we have here, will be trying all the various airfields at some point, as for the map on ebay, i wouldnt mind buying that, sounds like a good investment!

Ive never flown with charts, so it will be great new learning curve and will become even more real when i get my VFR scenery bundle through the post!

    All the best pilots!
