    Delco Carousel INS

I managed to get to the innards of that CDU and my project (so far) is to have the Lat Long display lit up. Not functional (for now), just lit up.
As it will not update the digits I was wondering if it is better to rig the display to have
    888888 888888
    or 000000 000000
    or ------ -------

What would be the most realistic, assuming the unit is in "standby" mode?

    Jack,

Have you found a wiring diagram for this unit ?

I have the exact same unit and was thinking of doing exactly the same with it.

I have one fairly complete diag. I can send it out to you by mail (mean real mail...pigeon!)
    Send me a postal adress.
    My conclusion on the CIVA:
After much thinking, testing, frustration, marvelling at all its electronic components and going nowhere I deceided to re-engineer it.

I removed all the cards and basically all the back connectors and wiring.
5V can backlight all keys but the top row which are on another circuit.
Each key can be rewired easily to be interfaced.
    DISPLAYS:
They do not use LEDs I think because they are not polarity sensitive.
I put all their connectors apart...long process and managed to have them lit up by powering some of the terminals. (I choose the ------ option). Basically I am not competent enough to make them work as they should (maybe you can).
I feel that putting new modern displays in the appropriate opening would be a better way.
FINALLY: interfacing it with the CIVA4 program should be possible with the FSUIPC mouse capture assuming one can get the display out working....

NOT EASY my friend but a nice project...Do U want The Diagrams?
    Cheers

That's nice work. I thought about doing the same, but I'm holding out for a PMS computer even though I know I'd never get that one to work.

The INS is a bit more nav capability than I want on board.

I love taking things apart like that and figuring out what makes it go, and then figuring out how I can make it go!

    Hi Jack,

I think it will too complicated to interface it using its original diagrams, so i think i will go the same route as you do, actually just directly wiring.

However im still interested in the diagrams, so i will drop you a pm on that.

    Thanks,

    Stef

    Hello Jack, Stef,

I am reverse tracing a CIVA MSU and CDU. Before spending weeks on that topic, your diagram might solve many questions I have.
Do you still have it, are you willing to send me a copy?

    Best regards,
    Jörg
