My New Shell

Hi Guys,

Thought I would show those who are interested what I built this weekend. I started Saturday Morning, and just put the tools down now. As you can see, I have started to cover the roof with the first coat.

Looks fantastic Trev, a heell of alot of work for sure. But I never cease to wonder why do people build the shell to look like a plane fuselage when the real sims are just a box with the flightdeck inside. That never ever made sense to me. Its a whole ton of extra work for no real functional value. For the cost it takes to build and cover a shell you could put that money into the actual flight deck, scenery and visuals, after all thats really what makes a flight simulator come to life. JMO

I agree 100% with you, however I only paid 100 bucks for the materials..

Other then the fact it is a lot of work. for me to try to get the shape inside right, I figured I would just make the shape on the outside right too.

Besides. Its more for the wow factor. Looks cool

But I do agree with you, it is really pointless to some extent.

PS: But the "aricraft look" does give you a WOW factor that is hard to beat.

Well isn't the box with a flight deck inside constructed similar to this?


If you're not going for a full motion flight deck approach (and most of us are not) then it makes sense to have just the internal portion, which looks just like an airliner nose portion with an alternate display setup worked in that suits your location/budget. And as Trevor and John stated, it does really make for an impressive look. As most builders go for an "as real as it gets" approach, why not make it look like the real thing?

I agree it was hard, but I had help from my Father, 2 hands are faster then one. I couldn't get my head around all the angles. Especially for the windows. It was not nice indeed. But the end result is amazing.

I am very happy with it, and now heading back down to cover more of the roof
