The cable on the B737-500 doesn't have plugs on either side of the cable. I've included a photo for you to see. Both ends look the same. I guess the earlier models and the 727 probably looks the same.

That small metal flap box just above the boom mike insert is indeed a ashtray.
I own the same ones. Ive found them on ebay. A seller called blacklincoln sold multiple sets of them.

Thanks for the photos Fritz. I guess I'll just drill a hole and epoxy the cable in place.
On some (maybe all?) 727's there are small discs attached to the window at the aft edge on #2. I've seen them on #4 & #5 too. I think these are thermocouples or thermistors to detect an overheat condition and trip off the window heat.
I haven't worked on modeling these yet, but I have a few good photos of them for down the road.Boeing Skunk Works
