    E-Mail from PPG Aerospace

I wrote to PPG about the decals with serial numbers that are afixed to Joe's (Project 727) 727 simulator.

They said they would be happy to supply my 727 with authentic PPG decals for the glass panels. I was shocked to say the least. A major aerospace corporation helping a sim builder???

I sent a series of photos to them and should hear something back by the end of the week.

And it gets better. Here is the e-mail I just received from Oliver at PPG:

I should have them by week's end!!!

    Dear Michael,

I have the trademark labels you requested ready to mail to you. I assume you would like to have them mailed to the address listed below. If you will confirm that is where you want them sent, I will FedEx them to you tomorrow. For your information, I am including two of each label in case you damage one when applying to the windows. We assigned a serial number in the same time frame as the ones on the photos you sent. We did however assign the current part number (we did not know what the part number was in 1991). If you want anything changed, just let me know and we will be glad to print more and send them to you.

I enjoyed the photos of the simulator you sent.

    Best Regards,
    Oliver

Well I think it's great that someone from a corporation with millions in contracts that make money would take time out of their busy day to help someone that isn't paying them a dime.

That is probably the nicest gesture a major corporation has ever made for me.

    Two thumbs up for PPG!

Thought you might want a better idea of what these looked like. They are 1/2"x2-3/8":

These are the current part numbers for the #2L, 3L, 2R, and 3R windows. This is the perfect excuse I needed to install glass into my half shell. A couple of the others will be used on the eyebrow windows. I hope no one notices that the numbers are the same.

Thanks to Oliver at PPG if you're reading this.

That's pretty cool that they would help you out like that but it would be pretty hard to see the photo's of what you have managed to re-create in your basement and not want to help out in any way possible...heck I'd even come over and serve in-flight refreshments just to get a first hand look at it.
