    New Front Projection Screen

    Hi Guys,

I thought I would take a minute and share with you my new Projection Screen.

This screen material is 2 4'X8' Sheets of 1/4" OSB. thats right OSB, with a special reflective coating on it.

The picture quality is superb. Picture a White board but more reflective.

I now have a 16' Curved screen. all I need now is a Matrox DualHead2go Analog Edition, anyone got one they want to sell LOL

    Best regards,

    Trev

I used 1 of those panels for the longest time in my basement setup. Talk about affordable screen material. It's readily available at Home Depot. It's dirt cheap. My main issues was it has really bad hot spots on it because of the glossyness of the panel. You could probably fix that though with some paint on it.

You know, I have been checking it out, and I don't see any noticeable hot spots directly in the FOV, a small one in the top right and top left corner where the screen curves and it bends the light, but literally hardly noticeable.

A Huge improvement from the hot spot from the rear projection setup I was using.

The material you got from home depot would be a little different then this. But the same idea.

Like I said, this is OSB.

    Nice Trevor,

What sort of image distortion do you get in the curve? Or do have some image adjustment for that (projector novice here). Also, what's OSB??

    OSB=oriented strand board (chip board)

I get no image distortion, in the cornest because I have carefully curved the screen to match the curve on the projector lens, to match the correct angle of the projector. any distortion that I will get I will compensate with SOL7 if required.

So presumably you are using a single projector at this stage and want to add 2 more via the DH2GO? I saw one on ebay a while back that went for not much less than a TH2GO Digital!

I am using 1 projector right now, and will be getting a dual head to go, to run a total of 2 projectors.

    Thats my goal anyway.

Saw one on ebay today for 160 bucks. May pick it up!

I also bought some cheap fiber board at home depot and painted it with a paint formula that I found on the internet, flat white with some black and yellow added I think and looks great (looks off white with a slight blue tint to it) with no hot spots. Cost about 20 bucks total. My goal is the same as yours I only have one projector and will soon I hope add a second projector. The one thing I am not sure of does the duel head to go just take a front projection image and double its width, does this cause a lot of distortion.

So how do you guys think a 2 projector image will go? Of course you have no bezels to contend with as with an LCD's. Perhaps it would be more future-proof to purchase a TH2GO in Dual Head mode but with the very long term goal of getting a third projector?

Percy, the DH2GO as with the TH2GO fools the PC into thinking there is a widescreen monitor attached and you can set the new wider resolution in FS to this new width. In the case of the DH2GO it is max of 2560x1024 (I think). You then get more field of view not a strechted image.

I'm also going the dual projector + sol7 route. I'm still not set on how to do the screens or shorten the throw with mirrors yet. I've already go the projectors though. DH2G is a waste of cash, just horizontal-span if you have 2 projectors. Only works on XP though. Vista would make the DH2G required though.
