Im going to sound thick here because my knowlage on airbus is limited but whats the difference between the 340 panels versus the 320 apart from having 4 buttons for any engine related parameter?

    And cant you buy them?

The difference Phil is the Overhead layout is somewhat different, the Pedestal layout also a little bit different. The FCU is same except in the Efis it adds one more selection option called ENG. MIP is also somewhat different.

Can we buy them yes of course we can buy them ... FROM YOU LOL!

What would be important to me, also, is the capability to use a standard two lamp (lights) annunciators. I've got single light AMLs, which cuts the realism in half

Right, the problem I have with airbus panels is the shear size of them, i can machine the panels no problem but the issue is the artwork, you see there are a lot of dividing lines that run across the width of the panels, i can only laser etch to a max of 180mm, some of the lines are up to 240mm. thus the reason why i have never bothered with airbus stuff, the glareshield and pedistal stuff is very easy.

The only way i can do them is by dividing the artwork up into 4 pieces, its actually easy to do that, this is what i do on some of the large 747 overhead stuff but there is no way i can produce those continous lines across the panel, they would have to be broken up into 2 pieces or maybe even 3.

The other issue will be producing the different colours on the panel artwork, now, i have done this before with good results but the issue is backlighting them, i always thought airbus was white illumination not orange, also keep in mind the green blue and yellow are flurecent colours, my idea would be to backlight them white so they shine through as different colours, but it wont work well with orange illumination, now i do have an ace up my sleeve for that but is a lot of work.

Matt, what do you mean by the 2 light annunciators and AML's? i assume you mean the 1/2 inch eaton style switches?

Yes, either Eaton or Kory style switches. I not sure about size... it's not readily available to me right now.... can anybody else help me with this?

Ahh Ok, now I understand, they are exactly the same as whats used in the Boeing 747 MCP, however the MCP are momentary switches, the Airbus are latching, on the MCP im just laying a pcb over the back of the panel and just having the head of the switch poking through, basically they work the same as keypad switches, but with latching switches you cant use that method.

I can think of many switches that have the same footprint as the Eatons, but all are single illumination so the same problem. I have the same problem with the large Korry switches, wonder if i can sell enough panels to buy the tooling to make both switches you will laugh but the way things are going i will probably end up at the FS weekend as an exhibitor, not a visitor
