    FSX officially announced!!!!

FSX has been officially announced. The good news for us is "Backward compatibly with existing 3rd party content is and has always been a priority for us, and we attempt to test as many add-ons as possible in order to provide the greatest level of compatibility." Though this quote does not fully support that FSUIPC or other programs alike will still work with it, I would bet they will, or get a patch quickly after to fix them. Microsoft still only says that the release is Q4, but at least we know it is before X-MAS!
You can check out screen shots here (notice there are BIRDS):

And you can see the Q&A from the press release here:

    Hi Joe,

Can you give us a bit of information about FSX and what it's all about? What the new items are of the FSX release. The captures look fantastic.

    Thanks for the news

Basically the improvements that will help us (sim builders) as seen as of yet anyways (remember there is still about 7-8 months till it will have to go to get published) are the environmental upgrades. For example the new auto-gen, has been said to be "smart" in which it strategically places its self over actual houses on satellite pictures. Upgraded land class and land class support has been added. Also features such as birds have been added (don't know if this includes bird strikes), and the water textures have been upgraded. Not much has been said from Microsoft as of yet, but in the coming months I am sure we will see the most intuitive private, OR EVEN Commercial Flight Simulator EVER BUILT!

If you go to the gallery, and look in my photos (Pochflyboy) You can see a compairason of the Seattle docks, between FS9 and FSX. You can see the difference in land class, water, buildings, Auto-gen placement. Great stuff coming from Microsoft

Not just a faster computer Matt. They are saying that they are only releasing the software on DVD. Plus the software is designed to run on Windows Vista. Although it will run on XP, they say in order to get the full potential out of the software it will need the new operating system. How do you like that, not only do they ding us 80 Bucks for the Software, it will be an additional 150 for the Vista Upgrade too!

    Damn Micro$oft

Really they only reason they say that it will run better on Vista is a) it will come with DirectX 10 b) it is fully 64 bit. Really you could upgrade DirectX 9 to 10 on your XP computer, and be just fine untill you are ready to take the leap from 32bit to 64 bit. When you do that you might as well load vista on your computer, because you are going to have to refomat anyways..... So basically the actuall difference in gaming between WindowsXP and Vista will be sort of like the differnce you would have seen if you upgraded from Win2000pro to WinXP.
