Boeing When and why, if ever, did you leave FS9 for FSX ?

    Basic curiosity ...

What was the "chief determining factor" for you ?

    Better visuals ?

    New add-ons unavailable for FS9 ?

    Other ?

Surely not because of the ATC, I guess ...

    I didn't leave FS9 - as Vista I highly distrust FSX until SP2.

    Current FS9 setup:
    FS Global 2008
    Austria Profesional 2006
    Ultimate Terrain Europe
    Group Environment Pro
    Active Sky 6.5
    RGFlight Photoscenery for Salzburg
    PMDG 737 NG
    Wilco/Feelthere Citation X

With this setup I don't see any reason to switch to a new memoryleak

    Cheers

    Yoshi

P.S.: btw, yesterday I reinstalled my PC, no more Vista!

I bought FSX early in the year because -

    1. I have a system that gives me 25+ fps with FSX
    2. I was eventually going to update so I wanted to get in early
    3. I can fly online in vatsim with it. Mostly been flying offline but.
    4. I am a sucker for weather and I prefer FSX weather to FS 2004. Especially wet runways.
    5. The cockpit I am building will never be for FS 2004 by the time its ready to fly so I wanted to get to know FSX.
    6. Level-D brought out the 767 shortly after so I have something worth flying. I knew this was coming so I jumped in early.
    7. I didn't own many payware addons for fs2004 so I wasn't losing out on $1000+ of addons. This alone can be a problem for people.
    8. I get excited a little too much every time I hear of a new FS release and cannot resist no matter what the problems.

I'm holding off switching until PMDG's 737NGX is released. I'm told it won't be in this year......doh!

The main attraction of FSX for me is SimConnect.

I had them both going at once until SP1. Since then I've been flying FSX alone. Recently I re-installed FS9 and to be honest, I was disappointed in it. It simply does'nt measure up anymore.

I have too mant add on s to switch, i would have to buy all new ones for fsx which would mean thats a load of money down the pan because apart from scenery i dont think fsx is that much different. I would rather spend a tenner on scenery packages.

I'm still running FS9. It's packed with payware add-ons. Already a HUGE $ investment in the simulator when all is tallied up. That alone is a negative incentive to change.

Also, I have watched all the issues that people are having with "the X", and since FS9 with a lot of payware addons it is pretty darn sweet to start with already ........ and a lot of the features that they chose to add to FSX do not particularly entice me...... I'd rather "sit pat" for the moment.

The big issue for me with FSX is smoothness and framerates. I remember clearly what I went thru (both in frustration and in money) with FS9 to get it to anything resembling what I wanted for the feeling of floating and flight. I am currently not running a computer that would give me ANYTHING near the smoothness that I have with FS9... and I won't HAVE that machine for a good long while.

So I can easily wait. I don't have to have the newest toys when they come out.

Eventually when I upgrade my main computer (for OTHER reasons than simming) to some expensive "beast" that will actually run FSX to a level that gives me a consistent stutter free performance of at least 25+ fps on short final into a major international airport with maximum AI traffic loaded inth o the place and WITH the added feetures of FSX actually RUNNING rather than being turned off so as to get acceptable framerates/smoothness........ THEN I'll make the switch.

    My $0.02 woth.

    best,

    ....................john
