You'll have a much easier time finding a 400/300/500 series section. The only real difference is the MIP and MCP, and these can easily be replaced with NG style components.
Thanks for the reply. Any idea of the price of a Classic or NG cockpit?
Depends on what boneyard you can get it from. The selling price is negotiable, but the labour costs of cutting it and moving it onto your trailer really add up (from what I've heard). Get in touch with nearby boneyards and see if you can get a quote.
I've requested a few quotes via e-mail, but most of them returned very high prices. Do you think I will get a lower price if I request a quote in person rather than sending an e-mail?
I'm not sure, since I've only purchased small components (radios, etc) from boneyards. Usually I see people getting nose sections for between 8k and 15k. Is there a particular price you're looking for?
So is it possible to get a 737-700 or -800 nose within the same price range?
Not a chance. The 737NG is too new, there are hardly any in the scrapyards. The 737 Classic (300/400/500) nose section is almost identical, and you will probably be able to find those in that price range.
How cheaper is a Classic than an NG? Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure how much more expensive it would be. My point is more that you won't find an NG. When the Classic came out, major airlines started getting rid of 100/200s. When the NG came out, major airlines started getting rid of classics. Nothing has replaced the NG yet. The classics are more or less the only type you will find, and the only real difference is the main panel and autopilot, which is usually removed when the plane is cut up for the scrapyard anyway.
