I have been searching for a workable program for Windows XP to run wake up on lan, but so far have not discovered anything of use. Does anyone have any information about the best program to look for ?

It's actually in your BIOS. Activate it there and then you will have control of it from Windows.
Or, if you are looking for a piece of software that will Wake on Lan, allow you to control PCs remotely in your home network and shut them down remotely, I have found Anyplace Control to be the best

Thank you both. It actually turned out easier to use the Bios facility that turns the computers back on when there is a power failure, and then use Peter Dowson great idea of RunReady.
