CDU abnormality

Whenever i navigate to LEAL (Alicante), the CDU places this airport somewhere
in South America... I usualy plan a flight from a north European airport.
It then says that the trip distance is something like 5500nm. Everything is
ok till the last waypoint. After that the flightplan says i have to fly
another 5000nm to the airport.

However, ATC usualy gives me a runway number before reaching the last
waypoint. And when i enter this runway in the CDU, everything becomes all right.

I have had this problem with LEAL ever since i bought PM software, about 2
years ago. It survived all updates on hard- and software which i went through
in these 2 years.

I do most of my planning with FS Navigator, though the bug also comes with
other planners.

Has anybody got any idea?

There is a fix (waypoint) called "LEAL" which is at approx 20S and 48W which
would put it somewhere in south Brazil.
Is the program assuming you are entering the waypoint LEAL and not the
airport LEAL.

Thanks for your reply. But how can i change this? Strangely the CDU knows its
an airport since i can select its runways.

PMFJI but shouldn't waypoints have 5 chharacters, VORs have three and NDBs
have two or three? I would assume that any 4 digit identifier would refer to

an airport - not a waypoint.

Is this a valid waypoint?

I think you are correct the international standard for waypoints is five
letters.
However as with any standard there are always exceptions.
Here in New Zealand we still have some three letter waypoints (reporting
points) OTA MIT FXT but it would appear that we are slowly changing these to
five letters.
Maybe Brazil is like us and still in catchup mode.

NZ also uses 2 letter VOR ids.

To make it even more absurd, import a FS Navigator flightplan from Alicante
LEAL to Nice LFMN. You first must fly to Portugal, then back, to Portugal
again, back again, before you are routed to Nice!
