6DOF home motion platform
Hi,
Just want to drop in and present you my 6DOF stewart platform using AC motors and VFD inverters:
Thanos 6DOF Motion Simulator Electronics: 6DOF Platform in Action. AMC1280USB - Ian's BFF 6DOF - X-plane
Thanos 6DOF Motion Simulator Electronics: Some photos of the 6DOF platform
I use Ian's BFF 6DOF software and x-plane, but it works great with FSX too!!
Here is another great example using DC motor actuators:

Thanks!!
Best Regards,

Re: 6DOF home motion platform
Hi Thanos,
Nice!! looks really good and moves quite well dynamically. Ian's software with your controllers make a great combination!
Seems 6DoF building is really taking off now, I just had components made in Taiwan for my version of 6DoF.

Re: 6DOF home motion platform
Thanos,
Very nicely done. I running a 3dof , Ians of BFF design and are really happy with it. Im afraid ive
beent bitten by the bug for a 6DOf after having seen your in motion. Are there any plans to
release Construction details for what is in your video?.
Thanks very much for posting.
Kindest Regards
Les
Re: 6DOF home motion platform
Hi Les,
I don't have really any construction details. Look on the rest of my videos the construction stages... You build this from grounds-up easily. Google around for your favorite layout. Then you plug the dimensions of your platform into Ian's BFF software and the software takes care of the rest so you have precise motion cues!
BTW, The cost of materials is six times the following:
AC motor 0.75hp = $112
Gearhead 60:1 = $241
AC VFD drive 1HP = $224
Magnetic sensorless position encoder= $15
Supports, rod, arm = $55-$70
So much inexpensive to built it yourself instead of getting ready built 6DOF platforms
(Ckas for example)
Best Regards,
Thanos

Hey Roland! I can't see the attachments for some reason... It gives me a "invalid attachment" message when I click on them!

Hi Thanos,
Not sure what went wrong with the attachments, but you can find more info on my new 6DoF design on:

I may have a spare AMC1280USB + 6DOF ext controller for you, that I can send, as soon as I assemble it in one or two weeks. PM me you address, I can't find it in our correspondence.

Hi Thanos,
Now that's a great offer!
My 6DoF is at the moment still 1DoF, the other 5 actuators still need to be built. As always, too busy at work.
In December I should be able to pick it up again: First need to check the dimensions of the whole structure, make sure everything fits in my attic, then start cutting wood and metal again. I do have all components and materials, so it is just a matter of mass production.
I saw your controller now also can drive PWM for DC motor? Still need to dig into that, but you've done some great work!
I'll PM you with address information.
Re: 6DOF home motion platform
Hey Roland,
Have a look here... http://motionsim.blogspot.com/2014/0...by-markus.html
Markus already finished his platform! Its in testing phase.
As mentioned in the manual, the AMC1280USB outputs PWM (31Khz) and Analog voltages as well (0-5v or 0-10v).
I'll be sending you your AMC1280USB soon, no worries about the cost, I would like to see your 6DOF platform up and running as well! ;)
Best Regards,
Thanos
Re: 6DOF home motion platform
Hi Thanos,
Markus did a great job! seems he and I are working with similar actuator designs.
Nice to see the rig in action, and definitely great motion. Can't wait to get mine up and running, but building 6 actuators is a lot of work. The sawdust has settled, and now I have 6 boxes, but metal works still need to be mounted.
Looking forward to your PWM controller!

Fabi uploaded more videos of this platform after calibrations of the VFD inverters and the PID settings on the AMC1280USB:

He is using Ian's 6DOF BFF software on the above video.

Re: 6DOF home motion platform
I have been building my motion base based on Thanos controller ..... i must say he is simply awesome when it comes to support and guidance. so far i am 1.5 years into this project but the end is near .......

Re: 6DOF home motion platform
Hi very nice project, I have just one question ,
most platforms are build for one man and a chair ,
is it the limitation of weight and inertia, how much weight can it take and move around?
regards Henk

Hi Henk,
These platforms are engineered for max load 500kg, but I've seen a really good stress test recently on one of them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GwyW5ZikJc
There are bigger ones in progress, with max load 1200kg like the one that Mike is building for a 737NG cockpit. More info about his project here: http://motionsim.blogspot.com/2014/0...r-project.html
Thanks

Re: 6DOF home motion platform
Hello,
As you may already know, I re-designed the AMC1280USB + 6DOF ext boards for additional features for the 2017.
http://motionsim.blogspot.com/<wbr>2016/12/redesign-of-<wbr>amc1280usb-motion.html
As part of promotion for this new design I'll be offering this new 2017 version controller with price of $--- for limited time (for orders until Jan 20). The lead time for those to ready to ship will be 30-40 days the most.
In the package you get:
-Free 3D printed Knob for the LCD menu.
If you are interested in this promotion let me know.
You can contact me at my new email address: tronicgr @ Gmail .com (minus the spaces).
Thanks
Thanos
Re: 6DOF home motion platform
Hi all,
Just posted some video updates on 6DOF platforms that might interest you.
http://motionsim.blogspot.com/2017/0...o-updates.html
And if you didn't notice yet, I re-designed the 2017 version AMC1280USB controller with seperate front panel for easy placement in a 3D printed case (the size of a normal computer bay of a PC).
