Need help deciphering this-Net Gurus wanted! Paint search

Hi guys-

I really didnt know how to title the subject of the post, but here goes:

I just got off the phone with the paint shop manager at Learjet and he told me after going and getting a quart of what they use for the instrument panels, that the paint is made by

PRC and was CA8273-F36118

I cannot find a refference to this anywhere so far, but my net sleuthing is not as great as some others here, Im sure.

If you can help me find this color out there, that would be great.

Are you sure the paint manufacturer is not PPG and not PRC?

PPG do a aviation grade topcoat called desothane HS polyurethane normally refered to as the CA 8000 range/series, so probably the "F36118" is PPG own in house reference/matching number.

Maybe give them a call to see if there is a compatiable RAL number for it.

Ok from what i can gather any PPG aerospace paint dealer can order this paint. I have contacted a local company here in CA. they are gonig to call me back. Here is the PRC dealers taken from the PPG website

I tried to see if any PPG distributer could get it but no luck so far you might contact a PPG dealer near you and they might be able to get it. Even if you could get a color swatch you could atleast take it to a paint store and have it replicated. I hope this helps.

I am curious to find out if you were able to get the paint you were looking for. Any info?

As a side note, PPG Industries also makes, or did make, all of the windscreen glass in the 737 and 727 aircraft including the side windows and eyebrows.

The #4L eyebrow window I have weighs about eight pounds and is 3/4" thick.
I'd imagine the front windscreen panels are an inch or better.

Thanks, I havent had the chance- things got busy on Friday afternoon but I will try to email the folks to get a RAL equivalent. Im not really interested in the real paint but I wanted to be able to compare the 'real' color to what Im using, or a goal at least, to purchase. I am def. sticking to Gwyn's 85% rule here! There's lots of less L45's in the world than Boeings, but Im sure that there could be some slight differences in the gray for them too! :-)

There sure is. At least three different gray colors have been used in the past.
