Re: Force Feedback Motors
Hi Wangjim,
Yes, I tried skewed armature brushed motors in my FFB development and they are definitely better than conventional DC brushed. (I thought Roland's Glentek ones were also skewed but I might be wrong).
However I did find that the feel was still spoiled a bit by the transition of the brushes over the commutator as the shaft turned - as each brush moved from one segment to the next the torque was interrupted a bit. Difficult to avoid this.... So in the end I went for the brushless motors to get an acceptable level of torque smoothness.
However the skewed rotor type might be worth a try... they will be an improvement over the Unites.

I'm trying again..
I'm very intrested in the same topic for the same application. Trying to source some motors from EBay, but the spesifications is a bit all over the place. Could these brushless moters be usable (still a bit expensive..):

Wangjim, what kind of controller hardware/software are you using?
Re: Force Feedback Motors
Dear All,
I am also looking for an alternate to the Glentek GM2340-15 motor to use in FFB. Would be great to hear from the experts on this if there is anything available.
thanks and best Regards,

Hello all,
still waiting for a reply here. Any update for the questions about the motors that can be used for Force Feedback Yokes.

Re: Force Feedback Motors
There may be a solution to use high torque brushless Servomotors für Control-Loading/FFB soon. We are working on this for some weeks now and hope to start testing with a first setup today or tomorrow.
Zsadal, feel free to contact me if you want more Information.
Re: Force Feedback Motors
Hi Marcel,
thanks for the reply. So how did the tests go. Any update on it. Would be really nice to hear an affordable way to have FFB for small GA aircrafts.
Waiting .....

Re: Force Feedback Motors
Hello Zahid,
We got the motor working and were able to simulate a spring centering. Unfortunately the XP-Force Plugin did not work, so no signals arrived from X-Plane. I hope that I may test with FSX next week.
This is just a one axis test setup with a small motor. We have to order larger motors and additional driver cards in the next week. But now I am pretty confident to get a FFB simulation - not cheap - but affordable and powerful.
The encoder of the test motor has a resolution of "only" 4000 points per turn. And you can use it directly as axis for the simulator. No need for additional sensors and hardware. Actual encoders do feature 10.000 points up to 2.000.000 points per turn.
Greetings,
Marcel
