NEWS PRODUCT - New option to control your LEDS and 7 Segment displays by Marc Gyöngyösi
We would like to present you an article from Marc Gyöngyösi (http://x737cockpit.blogspot.com), who is also a homecockpit builder. He shares with us an option for controlling LEDs and 7 Segment displays. This is what Marc had to say .."When controlling LEDs and 7 Segment Displays there are various options, which are usually very expensive and most of the time you are limited to a certain number of LEDs or 7 Segment Displays. ARCOM changes everything.
The whole system is based on ARDUINO, a micro controller which can be obtained very cheaply from eBay or other distributors. (costs around 20-30$) This ARDUINO has about 13 or more pins (depending on the model) and can drive ICs which is the key to ARCOM's greatness. "
How can this be integrated into a homecockpit?
Arduino usually communicates over the Serial Port. There are Ethernet Shields available, therefore it is possible to use Ethernet as well, but this is not implemented yet. Prosim737 has an integrated COM-driver (Serial Port) which makes it possible to communicate with the Arduino.
By using the ARduino COMmunication protocol, which I developed in the last 6 months, it is now amazingly simple to use an ARDUINO in combination with Prosim737 and consequently alleviates the stress on a homecockpit builder's purse. The ICs are essential for controlling all the 7 Segment Displays and/or LEDs and can be bought directly through me.
There are several possibilities if you wanted to obtain a simple copy of ARCOM or even a personalized version. To get an overview visit the ARCOM homepage here http://x737cockpit.wordpress.com/arcom_by_mac
