In August 2010 Microsoft announced the development of Microsoft Flight which will update the series with improved graphics in addition to the realism and accuracy, but the new game is also designed with novice players in mind with less of a learning curve. The game is being developed internally by Microsoft with some of the ex-Aces Studio's development team members rejoining Microsoft.

In January 2011, Microsoft announced Microsoft Flight would only be compatible with Windows Vista, Windows Server and Windows 7 due to Windows XP's space constraints. New screen shots and a new video are available online.
