Its going to take a while to digest all the information on the site, and the homebuilt setups are amazing!!!

I will be searching for help on getting switches to work with FSX?

I have a usb interface and know I need to create a pulsed circuit, can anyone here offer advice on how to do this please?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I did it. I went and spent actual money on my sim. Not on the sim itself mind you... I bought FS Panel Studio. I really wanted to get VOX ATC but it will have to wait.

My favorite plane is the Zenair CH801. I'm planning on building it as soon as things get stable with housing and money. So of course I fly it as much in the sim as I can. Problem was it was created for 2002 and had some serious guage problems. Not anymore. I created a nice custom panel to put on one monitor for the time being.

As much as I did not want to buy this product, I had to. I was tired of asking others to please fix a panel for me.. As it turned out, it was a good choice.

I'm sure by now most of you have heard of 'Front Panel Designer'. Its a freeware bit of software that lets you create a CNC spec for a panel that you want cut.

It comes with a nice library of tools, but I use it a bit differently. I have created some GoFlight look-alikes in the library and I can place them on a panel now to see how the actual hardware will fit.

This is the software I'm using to design my mip. You saw one of my prelim designs in my last blog post.

If you are interested, you can get this goodie at:
Be sure you put in a plug for MCP.org!

'What do you mean no room for a GPS!?' One of my most used items and I've no room for it? Oh man. Can I toss the XPDR instead?

Maybe I can yoke mount it?

Oh, and a real GPS is half the price of the G500 that Simkits sells. Too bad.

Well, I made some contacts and checked into the Coast Guard Aux flight program. Turns out to be a pilot for them you have to already have your license and a nice chunk of hours logged PIC as well.

Not all is lost however, I have other possibilities I'm looking into.

In the meantime, I'm doing the prelim drawings for my new 'Mini-sim'. Oh the pain of not having any room...

Well I finally found some space...

There is a wee jungle we have in our backyard and I took some measurements of it yesterday and its 10 metres by 7.8 metres...very big.

So I've been looking at the possibility of opening a training centre in my backyard with my sim and looked at the space and had a think with a few friends and a decision was made.

That decision will be announced sometime soon but it will involve a heck of alot of work, alot of custom work and is something that I dont think a homebuilder has ever done before.

So now we all wait for that moment when I blog the announcement, fingers clasped together...I wouldnt expect so.

Lewis out...but beware, the announcement will be dominated by Boeing...

In order to figure out how much space I would need, I drew/designed my dream cockpit.

At the time of the drawing, I didn't have a shell, and was also prepared to build my own shell. Particularly since there are no Airbus Cockpits available.

I had my heart set on a 4 engine aircraft. I like the clean/modern look of the Airbus, so I decided to build a Airbus A340.

Here's my first drawing.... don't laugh :)

I've been looking at some of my old photos of when I first started building my A340 project... takes me back and wonder.....

It was about a year before I built my first flight sim object, I started my research. What aircraft to build, and what detail did I want.

There was little information on-line at that time, but slowly a few builders started to talk.

My favorite and most informative place was the AVSIM Builders forum... Ended up with loads of information, lot's of activity. There was also the Epic Forum. "THE Flight Sim interface" to have. Unfortunately, very little help. But one of the plans was to get the EPIC interface.

Lot's of planning, spent countless of hours of drawing my cockpit. Actually drew a 3D drawing of my cockpit to be.

I'll share some of that in my future posts. Well just start with this first.

More to come :)

A whole week of CRJ's is nor under my belt.
Lets see, Monday I was on Kauai, Tuesday and Wednesday I was on Maui and Thursday and Friday I spent on the Big Island. I made the Big island trip into a mini vacation for my wife and I. We stayed in a nice room in Kona on the ocean. I can still smell the Jet A burning...

Strangely enough, as I was working on different islands, I came up with a way to reinforce the top of my desk so that the printer and other goodies don't cave in when I modify it to hold my new much smaller MIP.
Very cool.

I guess my big issue with aircraft in general is that the windows were placed for kids. Anyone over 3 feet tall has to nearly disjoint their body and neck to see out of these things. When will they make windows an adult sitting up can look thru? :?:

I have been jonesin pretty badly since we moved. I have no place for my sim and it is still in storage. Its been there almost a year now. Talk about depravation...:(

Well, I've decided that since we do have a desk, and room to put 3 17' LCDs on it, I can build a small MIP that will fit under them. Add my pedals on the floor and I'll have to get another yoke, or build one... (which might be more fun anyway)

But this will give me at least a little of my sim back. Now I just need to get clearance from the tower for departure. (Permission from wife to build):D

I guess that means I'm going to be looking at a 3H2Go soon....

Over the past three weeks I have been travelling a lot. Three times to Paris and once to Rome for the IATA World Cargo Symposium. As we have dual HQ's in Paris and Amsterdam the flights AMS-CDG-AMS turns out to be a reunion with collegues from former departments. However one flight turned out to be more special. The captain on this flight was somebody I had done a presentation together with, for the workers council. This resulted in an invitation to the front office. After one hour delay due to bad weather in AMS with reduced runway capacity, we got the push back clearance and taxied out to the runway. The ground controller then realized his mistake because we had a later slot time. By now we were near the runway with engines running and the gate position was taken by another a/c. So after 15 minutes we were squeezed in and took off for AMS. Near the border of the Netherlands we expected a holding, but this did not happen and hugging the coastline until IJmuiden we were vectored in for 18R Polderbaan landing on manual command, which was great to watch. After another 15 minutes of taxi time we parked at our gate, and the crew went on to the next flight, while I headed to the office for another day at work. The total taxitime equalled the total flight time which is kind of strange for such a fast mode of transportation. Luckily the taxi time to my sim is much shorter.

Why would I want to do that you might ask.

Because they do flying patrols of coastal areas and the pilots are building plenty of hours in their logbooks. And It's my understanding that they also train new pilots!

Want you license for almost Free?! Hmm... I'm checking into this...

Our access to the real aircraft will assure the best in realism and design. In addition to the real aircraft, we have access to 3 Dassault Falcon 900 pilots and 2 Dassault Falcon 50 pilots. Each pilot will be able to provide their own feedback and suggestions. Every piece of the simulator will be detailed in the "as real as it gets" theme. The simulator will run on the Microsoft Flight Simulator X/9 platform in conjunction with Project Magenta system software.
