Hello All,
Have people had problems with scenery/textures interfereing with the terrain
showing on the ND? I think it is probably something I added to do with
scenery for Sydney and Melbourne Airports. Weather displays correctly etc. I
have since removed the scenery and .bgl files from FS, but can not restore
the terrain.

Is there any place that explains how the terrain files are selected?

I have been able to use whazzup to generate terrain files, and get them to
display correctly on the ND. However in the last few flights, teh terrain is
not showing as it used to. I get No Terrain on the ND. The only changes
I have made are to;
a) upgrade to the latest builds as at mid November,
b) added scenery and textures.
I have tried regenerating the

Some locations (ie Tucson Arizona, KLAX ) still work ok.

Has anyone had other problems similar to this,
Thanks and Regards
Stuart

Stuart,

Scenery files in FS will not interfere at all with the terrain in Whazzup
or
the Glass Cockpit display, are you sure that the de files are still in the
pfd\terrain folder?

Hi Katy,

Yes I checked, they were there (only the .de1) files, and have tried to
regenerate them from Whazzup again, and put them in again,

Thanks,
Stuart

I only just purchased Whazzup so you will know more about it than I do
however just in case... It's usually the simple things we overlook. :-)

1. Make sure your radar is at 80 or less.
2. Switch pages on the CDU to activate the appropriate terrain file (yssy.de1
or yssy.de2 if you are at yssy)
3. If you are running multiple PFD installs then copy the files from whazzup
to the version displaying the ND. (nearly fell for that)

Other than those few things tonights install and DEM creation went well.
Good luck.

Regards,
Steven.

Thanks for the tips, I have tried that, just as a matter of interest, what is
the difference between the de1 and de2 files ?

Will have another go again tonight,

Thanks
Stuart

I read that the de2 was higher resolution though I can't see it comparing
KLAX to YSSY. Not the same terrain of course but at 5nm resolution the
terrain grid is spaced the same at the two airports. I was going to do a render
of KLAX tonight to do a better compare.

Steven

Thanks for the help on this, but I have tried to regenerate the YSSY / YBBN /
YMML icao areas, but am not having much luck.

Is there anyway to look at logs, or any tips on how to debug this. The
frustrating thing is that it works for some Nth American places,

Thanks and Regards
Stuart

Do you want to send my one of your problem files and I will try it out? I
guess we could at least make sure it isn't a data issue.

If you like, send it to email@thx1137.net.

BTW: I just discovered the terrain ND setup options in the CDU. It looks
MUCH nicer now that I bumped up the range, type and modified the colour!

Regards,
Steven.

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the offer, I got it to go tonight - its a weird one. Katy - not
sure if you can replicate this, but there was a 0 length file in the Terrain
folder in the PFD folder.

All terrain info before that zero length file works, all terrain info after
that doesnt. (I can understand how this could be possible as a programmer)

Removed the zero length file, and the terrain for YSSY etc came back - just
as before.

With regard to the CDU, there is a lot of combinations between 3d, type and
colour! Just like XWindows once upon a time, lots of configuring :)

Thanks and regards
Stu
