View Full Version : Encoder Speed Control

Bought a pair of Model 2600 rotary encoder boards from the Desktop Aviator. Got one of them all set up for HDG, ALT, VOR (course) and SPD (IAS/Mach speed/hold).

But it's a real pain stepping through the numbers one at a time. The worst example seems to be the encoder I'm using for the speed control. It seems like it takes forever to get from zero to 250. But if I run encoder.exe it appears that the only variable available is the pulse width and it appears to affect everything connected to the board - not just a single encoder.

Is there some "magical" technique for controlling the altitude, speed, etc., by 10s or even 100s?

On some of my aircraft, the controls can be pre-set, but on the default LearJet 45, even if you set the IAS control to 250, if you happen to engage the hold while the speed is less than 250, the control takes on that value. Am I overlooking someway to allow some of the controls to "keep" their settings once they're engaged?
SOLVED! More or less. I may not have done this correctly, but....

In the encoder.exe program I got with the rotary encoder, I realized that in addition to the pulse width (for all four encoders), I can select a "ratio" for each of the four encoders. They were all set, by default, to 1:1 so I changed the ratio in the one I'm using for the speed control - to 1:4 and that works a lot faster and is close enough that individual "integer" accuracy is not necessary.

if there's a better way...??
