Any suggestions on what to use for a panel overlay instrument bezels? Similar to the ones used by steve1970? http://mycockpit.org/geremy/Pic%205.jpg I like the behind the panel look.

I have seen everything from the top of plastic cups (with the round rim) to tuna cans used for bezels. I am using thin wall pvc pipe with a pvc sheet cutout for my latest bezels.

Was looking for some ideas too. This looks neat but they look as though the inside is "sloped", is that the case or is it a matter of getting 90mm/70mm pvc pipe and slicing bits off the end?

Honestly, you are probably better off drawing your bezel on coreldraw (or similar) and getting them laser cut from laser-able ply or 3mm acrylic, if you choose thin ply (such as 4mm) you can smooth the edges if required and then paint. You could probably get a set of 12 bezels cut for about £20 inc material and delivery! Ebay usually has people who can laser cut!

I would be happy to help out here. This forum and it's members have so gracious to me, please let me return the favor. I have a laser cutter, a CNC machine, and a 3d printer. Give me a test of your needed bezels, if able I will cut them for you at no cost.

Thank you for your kids offer, I think it best to mention that I live in UK, so would like to pay for materials and postage...just as soon as I find the details of the bezels I need. What information will you need to make them? Thanks so much again

The Bezel is pretty much a large square with a circle in the middle with cut corners at a 45 degree angle on each, a really simple design, prob about 85-86mm wide and high for the large gauge. I have made these by hand from 3mm MDF before when making the standby instrument bezels for the 737.

I did put a taper on the inside of the pvc pipe with a lathe. If you have the means to do this I would, it really increases the angle the guages can be viewed at quite a bit.

I found this, it may help you size up your cutting.

Cheers.
