I was looking for a way to trigger a yelping and wailing siren with a toggle switch and stubbled onto this free software called Soundplant 39 http://www.soundplant.org/ This software allows you to play a wav file with a single keyboard key. I assigned two wav files to unused keyboard keys and then used FSUIPC to assign those to two toggle switches. Not as clean as I would like (adds another program to the startup list) but it works... I doubt there are many cockpit builders who might find this useful but thought it might be worth a mention anyways....

Another way with recent updates to FSUIPC and Wideclient is to use the Lua plug-in facilities. A sound library has been added to Lua, and Lua facilities also added to WideClient so sounds can be played on client PCs too. The sound facilities include sound card selection, sound positioning, and volume.

Thanks for the suggestion Pete, I have been playing around with WideFs at home and will definately have a look at the Lua plug-in facility.

Cheers
