View Full Version : Cessna Yoke Column - Yoke Movement ?

This may seem like a basic question but I'm hoping to find out positional info.

In the Cessna what is the 'Normal' and 'Locked' distances out from the MIP for the yoke and then..

What is the movement distance (full through) in/out and left/right?

One thing the manuals don't talk about is how far things can be moved only that you should move them hehe.

Hi Ron,

Cessna yoke movements (based on the Cessna 152).

180 degree roll (90 each side)

160mm pitch from Stop to Stop.

This is based on a REAL cessna yoke and not simulated.

Not too sure if the 172 is different though.

Even though I didn't get the yokes off of Ebay. They finally went for $580.00 BTW (just a wee bit out of my price range RLOL). I did grab the pics though. Based on the pics and your info.

Total distance from handles (bumper thingy) to the end of the column is 544mm. Without the yoke attached the column is divided into 3 segments each at 160mm with the center one being where the movement happens. As there is a definite wear mark on the column where the movement was happening.

Total distance out from the MIP when LOCKED is 224mm (to the outside of the bumper thingy). From what I know about the locked position is that the elevator is locked in the down position. So the yoke will never go farther IN to the MIP then the locked position as you have to pull back to make it level (neutral). I think because you are trying to reduce stress on the linkage when the plane is at rest. I'm planning on making a yoke lock too.

So there is always atleast 160mm remaining beyond the MIP when in use and 320mm when locked.

If you are using the actual column length from the Cessna.

You had mentioned out of the actual Cessna 152 and not simulated? I'm thinking that kind of depends on the hardware (control hardware) that you're using to make that movement? With just a cursory look at the CHYoke a bit of a mod will be needed to bring that up to the Cessna position and movements listed above. As it seems to be currently about half of that movement now.

That should have the effect of creating a finer (more tuned) control as the smaller movements are currently being amplified in the CHYoke. Like going from power to standard steering.

Not quite to the yoke install yet but thinking ahead..
