Hello all,

It's not often that I've found something to complain about at this great site.

I was really disappointed, however, to note yesterday evening that the "Recent Threads" feature on the main site homepage (www.mycockpit.org) has been shortened considerably, now showing only 10 threads where it used to show at least 20-25.

I'm only able to get on here once or twice a day, and the longer list almost always allowed me a quick rundown of every thread with a new post since I last visited. I could then peruse the threads that were of interest to me. Now with the new shorter list, there are obviously threads with new posts that have dropped off the bottom of the list.

With the number of forums and subforums here, it's almost an impossibility to open them all up and check for new posts, and scanning the main forums index doesn't do any good because there could be 3-4 new threads in the builders forum, for example, that would never be seen by doing that.

PLEASE give us back the longer "Recent Threads" listing!!!

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: Of course, I look like an idiot now because I just noticed the "New Posts" button in the menu at top that does exactly what I just described. Please disregard.

Hey Chris,

I understand the frustration.. But we have so much information for you guys to see, we need to make room. We can change it back, so if this doesn't work then we can easily change it.

On the bottom of the nav bar is a link called "New Posts" this is essentially the list on its own page.

Try it and let me know if that works for you :)

Hi Trev,

Thanks for the reply. Please see my edited post that I was no doubt editing as you were typing up your reply.

Though Trev....

I really am impressed with your interior design work on the site, its nice to see some graphical changes and a splash of colour, I think it needed it for some time now, I welcome the changes! Good work pal!

Trevor

Craming the front page, like every body else, has its limits.

You did a great work adding colors and a few things but too much info on the home page, has the opposite result of what you are shooting at.
The "recent thread" column is effectively THE most important communication tool for a crowd whose attention span and clicking frenzy is very limited.
If everyone takes time to let you know that this (long) recent posts colum is vital , it may be a good idea to reinstate it.
The link does not always work as it should and newcomers will miss it for sure..

Do like Boeing...never change a winning combo...unless you have to! lol

Was going to make the same observation about missing the "Recent Threads" but did notice the 'new posts' link, only thing is on the homepage it indicates a certain number but when you get the link there is less in the list, unless of course the homepage shows all replies and the new posts lists the number of threads containing all those replies... :?:

Cheers

Ok all!

Here is the thing. Taking into account the new look on the site, what is a fair number of "recent" posts to put in. It was at 30.. Now it is at 10.. Your the ones that look at it, how many do you want? and lets see if we can comprimise..

To all others.. Thanks for your warm comments. It has been a heck of a lot of work. Trust me LOL. And I am still trying to widen out the forum by moving the side baner add.

Hopefully you all like it.

At the moment you have 10 and I realistically think that 15 posts is more than enough. More than 15 is a little bit less than what I call 'current'.

So how does 15 sound......?

Sounds good to me!

Personally, I do prefer the 30 items in recent posts rather than having to navigate to a new page but I could live with less ;) . But PLEASE, do remove the character shading in the Quick Navigation section...it makes the font almost illegible, especially in the smaller characters.

Nobody ever complained about the previous 30,
it was a nice way to follow up because most people do not log in twice or three time a day, or more, like you Alex
And after a few days most posts they were following will be out, when they were still there before.
30 is fine with me.

I totally agree. Nobody believes me around here that it is hard to read LOL. Actually there is no drop shading. Its the degradation of the image when it was changed to a JPG.. I will work on that next..

No worries Mau, I got your back :)

K Guys, I have compromised.. 15, And, can everyone see the Quick nav text better now? I edited all the graphics again..

Phew..

I do know about the graphic issue between the sidebar ad and the forums.. Trying to troubleshoot that now.

I know my eyes are getting weaker, but I see no difference at all in the font...still the same & illegible in the smaller sizes. However, maybe it's your eyes that are bad...after all, it is Saturday night and you should be relaxing with a cool refreshing glass of something instead of playing with fonts :p

Definitely better, but you should really use a darker blue as this one is very pale and does not contrast very much with the white background. That's what happens when your membership includes old farts who have vision problems :D

LOL ...I agree with Maurice the quick navigation looks much better without the bold black outline. It looked very crowded before. I would suggest maybe the darker blue on the top nav bar for the writing colour, as although i can see it ok, others may not. However the icons could give you a good idea ;) Anyone up on their sign language?

Overall great work though Trev. :)
