View Full Version : Modify Aircraft cfg

Hi folks

I've been flying for quite a while with the PMDG-software and I was happy with it. but after looking at some real flight videos I recognized that the feeling of flying the real aircraft must be different. not only because of the fact the your sitting in a real one;); no I mean the behaviour of the aircraft in the air. has anybody of you played around with the aircraft cfg to make it feel like you would really fly a heavy aircraft; to get this "heavy" feeling????
would love to hear what you changed in the aircraft cfg to make it more feel like the real deal.

The two most significant things you can do are to tweak the parameters in the [flight tuning] section of the .cfg file, and, use the joystick axes calibration and slope features in the FSUIPC interface (has to be registered version).

It's not really feasible to talk individual values because every cockpit and control setup is so different. It's a matter of tweaking a single value at a time, trying it out, and repeating till you're happy.

Watch cockpit videos - especially when they're on finals - and see how the control movements compare to yours.

Hmmm....Thanks for sharing Steve. I always thought that reducing the number from 1 down to a portion of the original would reduce the item it was talking about. In other words, If you INCREASED the "pitch_stability=0.901" to 1.5 then it would be far more stable than at 1, or less.

In fact I did this to the LJ45 (default of course) and it seems to make the a/c fly much more stable. I increased the roll stability as well, and it wont do a snap roll any longer.

Thoughts?

Just one.

Without being type rated in our chosen models, how would we know what is correct or not?

If actual line pilots have reviewed the model and have said "this needs a correction", or "this so-and-so isn't right", then I'd probably want to make any recommended adjustments.

If the testing pilots and outside unbiased (rated & typed) pilots gives it a thumbs up, that's good enough for me.

Well PMDG, like all add-ons, say that it's tested by real life pilots. I don't doubt that, but I have direct feedback from real-life 737 pilots on the flight model that I take into account. The most glaring fault with this model is the loss of attitude when banking .. it's overdone and tweaking can't fully remove it. Lets hope the FSX version improves on that.

We've also had real-life 737 pilots test our sim and provide feedback on the flight model and control feel. It's invaluable feedback. Caused us alot of work mind you ... it's not easy to get all the parameters right at once. And ours isn't fully right because that's an impossible goal (unless you have a spare few million to pour on it). It's about making the best of what you've got and being prepared to compromise to get a reasonable result.

Another thing to... getting the feel right for commercial/ATPL pilots is great, but it may make it too difficult for joe-public. So it pays to keep in mind who will be using the sim - if not just yourself.

Many of us though may not access to that sort of high-level feedback. So do we all just give up and not take up the challenge? I think not. That's where forums like this can help, and sharing your sim with other builders if they can visit etc.

Most real life 727 pilots are retired or dead.

The ones who tested the DF727 gave it a big thumbs up with no published descrepancies, but I've yet to find anyone not affiliated with the publisher to tell me exactly what they think of the flight model. If they can remember that far back.
