That looks like you pulled it out as-removed! Fantastic work there.

Are you going to trim the shafts on the pots or is that distortion from the angle of the photo?

Steve, the overhead is looking great!!! You sure are putting the detail in. I am sure this is taking quite a lot of time to make it happen.

All,
Thanks for the comments.

Yes, I'll cut the rotary shafts, when I get (or make) the knobs. for now, they're all secured in. Anyone know where I can get a bunch of Boeing knobs for 777? :)

Steve, who made your panels/korrys and do you have a website?

Eric,
The panels are early FDS panels with no backers, no IBL, etc... Just the brown laser etched top panel.

I made the Korrys. My website has a PDF showing how I did it. See the home page for the link to the PDF.

The website is:

Steve, the 777 is my favorite airliner, and because Im not building one (but a Learjet 45 that I love too) I rarely look at sites for the T7. Your project is fantastic, and shows just how much can be done with some ingenuity. I have already seen another Korry tutorial that is very similar to yours, but with acrylic cubes (which is what I have) and so your approach was a never before considered method. Thanks for sharing, and best of luck on your sim.

I do want to know- how did you make the center post cosmetics? I see you have a pre-formed channel of metal running thru it, but what did you do to shape the cover for it, the Learjet has a similar one, but it's round throughout and also tapered. Cant quite decide how to do that yet. There's a picture attached to show it.

Eric,
the center post cosmetic part is made of styrofoam!! I got a 3" thick sheet of it at Michael's craft store, and using dimensions from Hans over at project777.com I cut it on my radial arm saw. I filled it with Home Depot joint compound, sanded it a couple of times, filled again, etc... then painted it Boeing Brown.

I cut the back out to snugly fit over the metal channel, and blammo, a center post! Everything's at the right angle, the right size, the right color and so I'm happy.

I even made the whiskey compass holder out of styrofoam as part of the surround for the overhead. Just gotta find a 2" ball compass and gouge out the hole and stick it in.

Also, at the FDS forum awhile back, I posted this picture of how I made a separate, free-standing structure to support the 40lbs+ that the overhead weighs. It's mechanically independent of the rest of the sim but connected in with FDT cards.

Here's the picture if anyone's interested:

Nice and simple design on the O/H mount! I like it.
